JSKA World Karate Championships 2010
Unbelievable results for the WKU from the 5th JSKA World Karate Championships which was held in Portimao, Portugal.
Out of the 10 competitors sent, we came back with 7 medals!
A brilliant performance, as we are not mainly a competition orientated association, but always get great results. (We must be doing something right).
Results:-
Mens Team Kumite over 35 year old:-
Silver Medalists: John Hallett, Gareth Rowe & Don Elston.
Bronze Medalists: Karl Paterson, Wayne Thomas & Ferenc Raab.
Mens Individual Kumite over 45 year old:-
Silver Medalist :- John Hallett.
Matthew Lloyd narrowly missed out, coming 4th in the Mens Kata.
Ray (Basher) Perkins getting a raw deal and being disqualified.
Peter Barnwell fought extremely well beating members of the Mexican team, who were the 2008 team champions.
Katy Hallett, our only lady competing. Gave a brilliant performance in the Kata reaching the finals, but not quite making a medal position.

2009 Welsh Karate Governing Championships
Saturday 23rd May saw the Welsh Karate Governing Championships which was held at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Cardiff. The WKU had competitors which are pictured below. They all competed to an extremely high standard and we are all proud of their performances winning may medals.

2009 Legend Shotokan Open International
On Saturday 7th March in Bracknell, Berkshire was the Legend championships. This annual event had competitors come from various countries. The WKU was represented by John Hallett, Matthew Lloyd, Peter Barnwell, Lee Ockwell, Tyrone McFarlane and Andrew McCormick. They all competed to an extremely high standard and we are all proud of their performance.
